We never would have thought, but these unusual tips can really help you lose weight.

1. Sniff a banana, apple or peppermint
It sounds silly, but it works. When Dr Alan R. Hirsch, Smell & Taste Treatment of and Research Foundation in Chicago was tested on 3,000 volunteers, he found that people who felt their food more frequently than others were less hungry and had lost more weight on average 12 kg each. One theory suggests that sniffing food suggests that eats the brain.

2. Hang a mirror opposite your seat at the table
One study showed that eating in front of a mirror reduces food intake by nearly a third. It seems that you look reminds you of your own standards and goals, and reminds you why you're trying to lose weight.

3. Surround yourself with blue
There is a good reason for it and you'll see some fast food rooms painted in blue: Believe it or not, the color blue is effective as an appetite suppressant. Then, use the dinner plates in blue, wear blue during the meal and cover the table with a blue tablecloth. Conversely, avoid red, yellow and orange in your dining room. These colors stimulate the appetite.

Rather than write down what you eat, take pictures and sort them by date in a file on your phone or computer. A visual account of what you eat will help you to reduce your consumption. "Take pictures of what you eat, then watch, makes you think before you eat," says Joan Salge Blake nutritionist. No need of equipment: your cell phone will do. Think about it: you are the salad bar to compose a vegetable dish. Do not rejoice too quickly, however. A photograph of your plate and you will realize that you have "topped with cheese or croutons," Joan said. A simple visual reminder could be what it takes, the next time you stop adding a ladle of blue cheese sauce.

5. wear a ribbon around your waist
Try the "little secret" of the guru formatting, Valerie Orsoni. "Some French women wear a ribbon tied around the waist under their clothes when they go out for dinner. They are well aware of their stomach, especially when the tape becomes tighter as the evening progresses!
